THIS IS MY FIRST BLOG ABOUT MY SON'S ADDICTION. I no longer write here, but you can find me at the blog listed to the right, "Heroin Addiction - Ten Years In".
He's struggling with anxiety. It hurts to see it. He says he's not going to use (crossing my fingers, knocking on wood, praying, hoping), but he's depressed and tired and so am I. One day at a time.
I am so sorry barbara. I wish you both a good nights sleep and kinder day tomorrow. My son also suffers from anxiety...I guess it is all part of addiction. It seems to be a theme. You are in my prayers.
Does he have a sponsor he can confide in? is there an alumni group meeting for discharged clients at Phoenix House that he can go to? I'm so hoping that you both have a restful night and that tomorrow brings you a more peaceful day! Prayers continue for you both!
Mom, thanks. Anxiety can be so debilitating at times. I appreciate your prayers.
Her, Great questions. He doesn't have a sponsor but I hope he gets one. Phoenix House does provide meetings and he is going to two a week, he goes on Saturdays to help out around the house, he goes on Tues for the official "Live Out" mtg. and he wants to go on Wed too for Dual Diagnosis. I'm praying for you and DD2 right now!
It sounds like he is trying very hard to work his program. Get some rest and try hard not to worry and just accept that he is following his chosen path, worry never helps and just makes us sick. Much love and prayers for you both.
Syd is right. Keeping yourself busy and not letting it hold you back for long is the key. He needs to realize he is going through lots of change right now and anyone would be anxious about it. One hour at a time if need be, this too will pass, really it will. I wish I could talk to him about it.
Heart breaking to watch another's anguish, isn't it. In these times, I try to keep the focus on me, just for today, and find something lovely to do. You can almost tell me stress level by whether I'm fully pampered or not. (())
My computer was down yesterday and when I saw your post this morning I wished I could be there to give you a hug - I'm sending my prayers and hope when you wake up today you have renewed hope and peace!
We must all find serenity in our life. Often this a painful journey but as the prayer says, "We will we reasonably happy in this world" But, we will be forever joyful in the next life that is eternal. Peace is obtainable, may you find peace today.
One problem for me when my son was at home was I watched his every move and mood. I was always trying to guess if he felt bad, would it make him relapse, etc. What could I do to make him happy, and so on. I found out later this is called enmeshment. I could not separate my feelings from him. It's more complicated than that, but you know what I'm getting at.
There are going to be sad, down, tired, etc days. Try to let him work it out (with a sponsor, with peers,or in group) as much as you can.
Thank you everyone. Wow, I felt the concern of your words. It means so much to me. Isn't it amazing how a group of "strangers" can connect via our words on a screen and come to genuinely care for each other and our families? It's pretty awesome.

I hope that he will find that anxiety can go if he stays busy. I hope that tomorrow is a better day.
sending you a million hugs.
I know you are tired, and I pray for a good night's sleep for both of you (maybe two) and a better day tomorrow.

Try not to let his mood get the best of you. I know, it is so easy to dish out advice. Be good to yourself because you deserve it.
Hugs and prayers for you, my friend.
I just wanted you to know that I am here for you.
Hoping today brought a different outlook...stay strong
