Got another letter from Ant today, this one was very positive.

Ant will be transferred out of Chino into a "main line prison" which means a lot more freedom and a lot more access to drugs.  He said its easier to get heroin in there than on the streets.  THAT IS JUST WRONG!  HOW CAN THE PRISON GUARDS NOT FIGURE THIS OUT?  DO THEY EVEN CARE?

He's lost 10 lbs cause they feed them like they are "Kindergarteners".

Which reminds me, they get creative in there on making food into "meals"

How to Make "Orange Chicken" in prison:

In Styrofoam cup mix chicken nuggest, orange marmalade, dry lemondade mix and crunched up pork rinds.  Cover in hot water and stir.

He also takes "birdbaths" cause they don't get to shower often.  I don't think I could survive so I plan on staying on this side of the law!

Peace, Hope and Love,
Barbara

Barb they are in prison not summer camp. If they made it nice everyone would want to go there and not avoid it. Some still seem to want to go back even though it sucks. This is Anthony's 3rd time isn't it? I think he knows what to expect. Imagine what it must be like to go there for a crime you didn't commit? Now that is something to feel sad about.

Lacey, I don't expect it to be nice, I was trying to be light-hearted and or a bit sarcastic. I guess I am not very good at pulling those off.

But I am not joking about the availability of drugs in there and that ticks me off, what's the point of throwing someone in jail on a drug charge when they can continue and use and break the law while IN PRISON!

I have never been a prison guard so I don’t know for sure but I would have a guess and say that a say that a subdued model of the ‘outside’ world might be a model that could be tolerable to work in. Drugs are part of that. Could you imagine how this would affect a guard’s life if they started busting people? Woo, fun times. All they have to worry about are public ‘events’. Other issues could be deemed as unavoidable. The wheel turns. I think the prison guards are aware, some may be more involved. What would you do if you saw a tennis ball come over the wall? On other matters, I can’t help but feel for Ant and all that he's going through, good on you for sticking by him.

I remembered taking a tour of a max. security prison up state (NJ) and at the end of the tour the guard that was showing us around started showing us weapons and pictures of murders and suicides of prisoners and I thought to myself...if I ever went here, I would do whatever it took to kill myself. I was only there for a few hours but it honestly felt as though my soul had left my body. I felt empty.

I agree on the drugs. What hope is there for the rest of the world if they can't control it in prison? I guess some people will find a way to get what they want wherever they are. Imagine if they channeled that into something positive what they could accomplish.

OK, that recipe made me gag...I wonder about the differences in prisons across the country. I certainly would think of suicide if I were ever stupid enough to do something to get myself locked up in a max security jail...

Spin, thankd for that perspective. I wasn't even thinking of it like that, you make a good point.

Silver, I have never been in one other than the visiting areas which is enough for me to know I never want to go! The hardest part was not seeing the prisoners, it was seeing their families on the other side, young kids, pregnant wives, old parents....very sad.

Lisa, AMEN! He told me in the letter he reads the Bible for an hour a day as part of his routine.

The transfer of prisons sounds like a good thing (?)... on one hand... but if drugs are easier to get there (?)... I will continue to pray for Ant.
So happy to hear he is reading his Bible :)

Love & Hugs to you!!!

Well, I have a little knowledge of the prison system due to my brother being violated MANY times for drug use and sent back to prison for violation. His original offense was many years ago for receiving stolen property, but most of his adult prison time was due to drug use violation. Many of the guards actually bring the drugs into the prison and sell them. Yep, for sure true and a shame. Keep them addicted, keeps them in business. It is just kind of a messed up system all the way around, I am thinking especially in the California Prisons. I pray the Lord will intervene for Anthony, step in and guide Anthony to true recovery.

Anthony will have a choice in prison then on whether to use or not. I wonder which he will choose.

i'm catching up over here; been busy reading some of your other blogs lately, so i know i'm "late" in commenting...

i grew up around a lot of family and friends who have working as police officers and then a few in prisons or jails, etc. ... it seems to be well-known that california has one of the most out-of-control (or difficult TO control?) prison systems in the u.s. don't know what the problem is exactly. but they aren't the only ones who deal with drugs and those type of issues; it's rampant and not only through participation of the guards ... although it should be a PRIORITY that staff is trained and background-checked and paid well enough that they are discouraged from thinking that this is a viable activity. it angers me so much!!!!!
